The other day I made a card for one of my friends and I realized that I didn't have an
envelope big enough to fit the card. I spent a solid hour making the card, so I
didn't have the will power to start all over again just so it would fit into an envelope. So being the good ole' Pinterest DIY enthusiast that I am, I decided to create my own envelope. Hopefully this quick DIY tutorial can help you out if you ever come across the same problem or want to simply make your own envelope!
The first thing you want to do is find a square piece of paper that fits the card's width twice and length 1.5 times. Once finding the correct size of paper or modifying your own square, you will want to turn the paper so it is a diamond.
You will want to visual a large "X" on your paper. This is so you don't fold any excessive creases.
Take the two horizontal points on the paper and fold them towards the center.
After folding in the two corners, visualize a line about an inch below the middle (measurements may vary). You will then fold up the bottom vertical point to that imaginary line.
Three of the points of the paper are now towards the middle. You are now going to create two right triangles at the bottom corners of the paper. I visualized two boxes when making this fold. When folding, keep the new folds as even to each other as possible.
The envelope is almost done, only a few more steps! Now you will fold the bottom corner down. This is to prevent a bulge in the envelope.
You are now going to fold the bottom section towards the middle. In the image to the right, I provided a a line on where you would fold. At this time I would recommend placing an adhesive on the bottom section that you are folding up. This will help the envelope stay in place.
Once making that last fold, your envelop is now complete!
The fun thing about making your own envelope is that you are able to personalize it to your own likings and add personality to it! There are many ways to spice up a piece of paper, so be creative and have fun!
