5 Ideas on How to Creativity Write Your Return Address

The last thing that you probably think of when sending letters is your return address. I know it is for me. I've never really thought about it till I received a wedding invitation where the return address was on the back and beautifully written out. It wasn't until then that I decided that it was time to add some personal touches to my return address.

There's nothing wrong with having your return address simply in the left corner of your envelope, but sometimes adding a creative touch adds more personal touch to your letters. Here are 5 easy ideas to try out if you are looking for a way to creativity write your return address.

Think Inside the Box

One way to add some character to your return address is

to add a frame around it. It adds the simplest detail to your design. There are different ways that you can add this element to your design. Here I wrote the senders name in cursive and included it in the frame. From there I added the address within the box.

Play around with adding a frame to your return address. It can give an elegant element to your envelope.

Don't Shy Away From Color

This may be the simplest way to add a personalize touch to your return address. Add color.

This can be done by writing the address in color or highlighting it. Even using color as a background accent can add all the difference.

For this return address I kept it pretty simple by just adding as small doddle of lavender. All I did was then add purple and green to the doddle with a

highlighter. This just adds a small accent and makes the return address pop a little more.

Add Paper

One of my favorite ways to add to the return address is to add paper. Tape or glue on any type paper to your liking. It can range from construction, newspaper, photos, etc..It's your opportunity to

be creative. My favorite type of paper to add is a brown rustic textured paper that I purchase at Johanns.

I cut it 1 in x 2.5 in to make it the perfect size. I then use double sided tape to place it so it has a smooth finish. The great thing about adding paper to your return address is that you don't have to decorate any more if you don't want to. I wrote the name is loose cursive and the address in my normal handwriting. The added paper makes the return address stand out.

Not Where You Expect It

Your return address doesn't have to be on the front of the envelope. You can always put it on

the back. Place it in a place that is least expected for the receiver.

This is a great technique to use if you are wanting to showcase the front of the envelope. There is no additional median that will distract from the front of the envelope.

I like to put it on the edge of the flap of the envelope personally. It makes for a unique placement that will not be missed.

Fancy Frames

The most popular way that I have seen people write their return address is adding a shaped frame to it. Very similar to using a box to frame the address, but instead of using lines you use different shapes or drawings.

I see this ton on wedding invitations where the return address is framed in a type of drawn garland. It is an elegant way to add to the return address. This type of method is perfect for special occasions and events.

I actually wrote the return address on the back of the envelope to make sure I had enough room to highlight the garland. I sketched out two rounded frames and added small loops to make it look like garland. I then wrote the name in cursive and the address in my own handwriting.

There are so many ways to write your return address on envelopes. Adding the small personalized touch allows you to customize your letters and make them memorable. Have fun experimenting and trying new things when you write your next letter!
